This charming Okinawan greeting card is features iconic Okinawan food dishes that symbolize and represent the warm and welcoming friendly feelings of the islands, and that I ate while during my trip to visit Okinawa. Each illustration is hand-drawn and illustrated with love, nostalgia, and gratitude, and includes the English name of the food, Uchinaaguchi Okinawan language phonetic name and pronunciation, and Japanese phonetic katakana of the dish's title. From the childhood spam musubi and  andagi Okinawa dango that I grew up eating in SoCal, to the home-grown Okinawan goya bitter melon, shikuwasa citrus, and beni imo purple sweet potato, to foods that were new to me, but quintessential to the culture - Okinawa champuru stir fry, Okinawa taco rice, and Okinawa kuri (ikasumi jiru) squid ink - each drawing and illustration includes colorful details and textures to bring the flavors and sentiments of Okinawa to your heart and home.

As a half-Okinawan girl, this card was inspired by my adventures reading books about other Okinawans’ experiences, learning some of the Ryukyu language, becoming a part of an Okinawan-American community in LA, and then visiting Okinawa in college while studying in Japan.

I hope that this greeting card brings comfort and happiness to fellow Uchinanchu people, and to those who also just enjoy and feel warmly and fondly for the island nation.

˚˖° HOW WE MAKE OUR ART ˚˖°

Each hand-drawn greeting card is individually-made with colorful inspiration and intention. I first sketch or illustrate each design by hand on paper or the iPad, then make edits using Procreate and Photoshop for color correction and compositional placement.  Every card is then printed locally at home on 100% recycled card stock paper, with a high quality eco-tank printer, and my mom, aunties, and I then fold and/or hand-score, and package each card with a kraft paper envelope and a clear cellophane sleeve for protection. It then safely makes its journey to your hands and home! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა ˚˖°
